Carmel has established two No Parking Zones (shown in green) that will be enforced prior to, and during, Friday night’s Fireworks Spectacular at Riverview stadium to meet insurance standards. Carmel City Council Monday that more than $8,700 had been raised through contributions by local businesses and individuals to help pay for this year’s fireworks. City officials explained Monday the fireworks almost didn’t happen this year, because insurance regulations stipulated an 800-foot “no human” perimeter be established around the area where large fireworks are launched by professionals. Carmel Fire Department Chief Allan Kidd, officials agreed fire departments will initiate a controlled burn to burn off portions of the levee system - where dead, dry grass resulted from recent river flooding - in advance of the celebration to cut down on fire risks.
