November 5th, 2008What would you do in this situation?
I just got hired at a place to work from 9-5 Mon.-Fri. with a payday every other Friday. There is no direct deposit, and I can’t go to the bank on my lunch break because I don’t drive, I take the bus there and it takes an hour and a half to get there and an hour and a half to get back home.
Should I ask my new boss if I can leave early on paydays so I can get my checks depostited? Do you think I would be looked at funny if I made that request or would she understand?
If I had someone who could deposit my check for me while I was at work, then I wouldn’t need them to do it, they would just pick me up from work and take me to the bank themselves.
I just checked the website and no, my bank is NOT open on Saturdays.

I dont think they will let you. Perhaps you could get someone to deposit it for you while you are at work.

Depends on the kind of person your boss is, if she is understanding enough to know that you take the bus to and from work then she could surely understand the necessity to leave early on payday to make it in time to deposit your check. Just ask, the worse she could say is no.

Explain the situation to your boss, and see if she will let you leave early, or if she has any other suggestions.
Perhaps one person in your office who drives can go cash the paychecks during lunch, take turns every pay day
Is your bank open on Saturday?
What if you open an account at a bank near your office, that way you could walk over during your lunch and get your paycheck cashed then.
This is one of those things that your employer will expect you to do on your own time, not hers, but if your boss seems cool maybe she can suggest a way for you to get around this problem.

Okay, so ONE–Can’t you go on Sat. Most all banks are open till noon on Sat.
TWO–if you have an ATM card you can deposit your check in an ATM machine. If you do not have an ATM card, they are really easy to get.

Explain the situation to your boss, and ask her if you can skip your lunch break (or take a shorter lunch break) on payday so that you may leave early to cash your paycheck.

see if your bank has a night deposit or find a bank with an atm that you can deposit money in after hours
