October 8th, 2008How much should we change, in order to compete with the Chinese?
With Chinese/Indian technology advancing, in order to compete we will have to work for the same wages.
If you don’t fancy working for $1 per day, then we have to impose tariffs until they pay their workers western wages.

work cheaper, work harder, be more thorough/accurate, figure out how to successfully use automation technology to help complete repetitive tasks. Hire people on an hourly basis so they don’t get entitlement-itis.

That would go against free trade. Which our current government is not willing to do. But I agree, free trade only helps those countries that aren’t doing well by sucking the lifeblood out of the middle class of our country. Sure, big business loves the cheap labor and products, and it might LOOK good for the economy now, but with the decline of the middle class, you’ll soon see the economy go down with it, and there will be rich and poor, and relatively nothing in between.

All we have to do is stop paying for anything that has been pirated or is supporte by pirated software which means everything exported from China. If we manufacture thing ourselves the money stays in the US and cycles throught economy generating new jobs and pays taxes and cycles back. 25 dollars spent on US merchanise can generate hundreds of dollars of production within a few years. We are so foolish!!!!

Lets first start with cutting the salaries, bonuses and retirement packages offered to some of the crappiest CEO’s in US history. Then lets stop outsourcing jobs and begine to manufacture products in America again. Have you noticed how much of our stuff says made in China or Taiwan. Put some real money in educating our kids. By the way that some of the people posing questions, the Chinese are not in any threat from us on that level. No more tax cuts for the wealthiest in this country. No more record profits from oil companies without penalty. Maybe then we can buy our debt back from China.
