I know that if we filed online they would hold the refund but would H&r block hold it or not give us the loan check the next day? I talked to ssa they’re supposed to release the wage hold but they’re taking forever or lying to me please help we need the money and i dont want to lose it can i file my taxes and get the loan while owing this money even know we did not cash the checks someone else did!!!

If the IRS is going to withhold your refund if you efile on your own, then H&R Block will not be likely to give you a loan for your refund since you won’t have one. The fact that SSA has told you that they’re going to release the hold doesn’t change things until they actually do.

H&R Block is bound to follow the tax laws set by the IRS. If the IRS was going to hold your return H&R Block has to do this as well. Sorry, I would wait for the wages to be released. BLessings

If there’s a hold on your refund, it won’t matter how you file or who prepares your return. The tax prep mills will check the status of your refund and if there’s a hold on it, you won’t be given the loan.
Those loans are a rip-off anyway. If you have your refund sent directly to your bank you’ll only get your money a few days quicker with the loan — sometimes as little as 2 or 3 days quicker — ridiculous considering the fees that you have to pay.

If by some chance a tax preparation firm advanced you money on your refund, and your refund was taken for SSA debt, then what? How would you pay the tax preparer’s fees and the bank loan with no refund?
When you take a loan against your refund you have to sign that you do not have any offsets to that refund. Since you know that you have offsets, you shouldn’t be signing loan documents that state you have an unencumbered refund. That is fraud.
